Adani Group to Invest ₹96,000 Crore in Airport Business Over Five Years

The Adani Group, led by billionaire Gautam Adani, is set to make an investment of ₹96,000 crore in its airport operations over the next five years, with a strong emphasis on infrastructure upgrades and real estate development.

The bulk of this capital will be directed toward the Navi Mumbai and Mumbai airport projects, as the conglomerate doubles down on its domestic aviation ambitions.

Navi Mumbai International Airport: A Key Focus Area

The Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA), which is expected to be operational by October, will initially handle 20 million passengers annually, backed by an investment of ₹19,000 crore.

Looking ahead, the group is evaluating two expansion options for NMIA’s second terminal—either a ₹30,000 crore terminal with a 3-CPA (Code Passenger Aircraft) capacity or a larger ₹40,000–₹45,000 crore terminal with a 5-CPA configuration.

The long-term vision is to scale NMIA to accommodate 90 million passengers annually, with a total investment nearing ₹1 lakh crore, as mentioned by Jeet Adani, who leads the group’s airport division.

Mumbai Airport Expansion Plans

In Mumbai, the group is planning to construct a new Terminal 1 by 2032, with an estimated outlay of ₹5,000 crore.

Beyond the financial capital, terminal upgrades are also in the pipeline for airports in Ahmedabad, Jaipur, and Thiruvananthapuram, while expansion work is actively progressing in Lucknow.

A new terminal in Guwahati is expected to be ready by late this year, as mentioned by Adani.

Funding Plans

To fund these projects, the group plans to use a mix of internal accruals and debt refinancing.

Adani also emphasized the importance of aligning infrastructure development with airline growth, highlighting ongoing collaborations with major carriers like IndiGo and Air India.
